Overview / specialty        Reconstructing changes in the Earth's climate system and variability in biogeochemical cycles in the past. Using climate archives such as marine sediments and ice cores. Timescales of interest range from millions of years (such as the Pleistocene ice ages) to decades (the scale typical of thermohaline ventilation processes). To identify and quantify possible mechanisms of change, I use a variety of isotope tracers, including noble gases, stable isotopes, radiogenic and cosmogenic isotopes.
