PAGES Data guidelines

Beginning with its early community synthesis products, PAGES has developed an understanding of the challenges and opportunities in research that involves data discovery, synthesis, and analysis. PAGES continues to facilitate the development of community-based, data-intensive synthesis products, and promotes data stewardship within its constituency. Several databases have been developed by PAGES-sponsored activities and are used widely, and many others are under construction. PAGES also works with the NOAA Paleoclimatology (World Data Service for Paleoclimatology) and other primary paleodata archives to develop data-product services and ensure long-term archiving of data.

Where should I deposit my data?

We recommend (request for PAGES activities) that all new data produced are deposited with an archive of the ICSU-World Data System (WDS). For paleodata, the primary WDS archives are:

NOAA/NCEI Paleoclimatology

Neotoma Database

Below you'll find useful links to external paleo related sites and databases.

Please direct any queries or relevant links for inclusion to the Communications Officer.

PAGES Working Group Databases

Databases and metadatabases compiled by PAGES Working Groups.

The metadatabases provide meta-information collected by PAGES Working Groups of proxy sites of different natural and human archives that might be suitable for climate reconstructions.

> 2k Network Phase 2

> C-PEAT (Peat carbon)

> Floods Working Group (existing (published) flood records based on historical or natural archives)

> PIGS (records covering Past Interglacials, former WG)

> PlioVAR (in creation)

External databases

PAGES has compiled a list of national and international databases, which should serve as a useful starting point for on online data search.
